Eye for an Eye

Emil Stang LUND

Norway1998 7min color

Synopsis

Kristina, a widow, gets her bag snatched in the subway. In retaliation for the assault, she places a trap inside her handbag. From then on, the culprits who cross her path in the subway are caught red-handed with her device. Revenge is sweet for Kristina, until her beloved pet falls victim to the trap. Emil Stang Lund is a Norwegian-American director whose first full length film, Bat Wings, won the prize for Best Director at the Moscow International Film festival. Lund adds that the award-winning film was inspired by the Taviani brothers?masterpiece. In Eye for an Eye, which he says was created with the ?o-called American Wide-Screen?in mind, Lund introduces a variety of chilling images. Indoor shots in strong primary colours, as seen in Kristina? room, are particularly impressive. The final scene where an amazing gourmandise takes place reminds us of Peter Greenway? The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. One will have to see the film to discover the food in question. (KIM Eui-Chan)
