Synopsis
Memory is a fragment of the past that exists as a fixed entity, separated from our present. On the other hand, by actively remembering a past event and re-living it, we bring the past into our present. This film, as the title implies, is about bringing up the deeply buried past and actualizing it in the present time. Ki-Young is travelling on the train, watching the scenary of his hometown. When he arrives at the station, he sees little boys playing on the rail tracks and out in the field. He walks past the station and along the highway. When the boys walk past a tree, Ki-Young follows them and enters the place from his past, the old home he grew up in. As a young adult, Ki-Young appears to be worn out by life. Two fingers missing from his hand summarizes the weary state he is in. To Ki-Young, returning to hometown means escaping from his present to find his resting place. However, this nostalgic place existing in his memory no longer offers comfort to him. Instead, returning to his past and re-living it only awakens the sadness of his present life. (PARK Ji-Yeon)
