Synopsis

A melancholy song overflows the screen. “And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning. To be done with all this measuring of truth. An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth. And I'm not afraid to die.“ The expressionless wall, the merciless iron bars, the formidable steel doors and the tight-closed room. A man is screaming on the verge of self-destruction in this dark suffocating hell. The mood is desperate, yet the camera moves around dynamically. Look at the daring shorts conveying the feeling that the viewer is running together with the male protagonist. This film is an animation music video in whose attractive style are melted metaphysical questions about the existence of God and human existence. Nick Cave, an Australian-born musician active in Britain, sings the theme song. The leader of the Nick Cave and Bad Seeds band usually writes songs and stories about love, murder and death. This film's theme song, The Mercy Seat, is contained in his album titled Tender Prey and is also included in his best album that went on sale last year. If you enjoy the film, it would be natural for you to hear the song again and again. (HONG Sung-Nam)
