Synopsis

Obsession obliterates reason and one? sense of reality. This film shows us how a man? obsession with lost love and a woman? obsession with her dead son can be frightening in its tenacity. Maria is found in a graveyard, covered in blood with a human heart in a bag. The film goes back as she begins to tell her story to the police. Gary (Christopher Eccleston), a successful businessman, has followed his wife Tess (Kate Hardie) to a house where he believes she is sleeping with a writer, Alex. Fueled by obsessive jealousy, Gary? anger triggers a violent heart attack. Although, he survives, he is forced to live the rest of his life out strapped to a wheelchair. and this spurs Tess to start a passionate affair with Alex. In absolute desperation, Gary believes a heart transplant is the only way to get his life back and win Tess back. The tragic death of 17 year-old Sean in a car accident becomes salvation for Gary. Sean? mother, Maria, agrees to the transplant of Sean? heart to Gary. As Gary and Tess begin to forge a new life with eachother, Maria is plagued by her own overwhelming grief and memories. Soon, these four people will be consumed in a blaze of obsession, jealousy, desire and vengeance. Charles McDougall made his screen debut with Arriverderci Millwall for the BBC. Charles McDougall made his screen debut with Arriverderci Millwall for the BBC. He went on to make Cracker and the highly acclaimed BAFTA award winner, Hillsborough. Heart was created by McDougall and writer Jimmy McGovern who also worked with McDougall on Cracker and Hillsborough.
