Synopsis

andra is a seemingly ordinary young woman with a not-so-ordinary fascination with death. What started as a childhood fascination for her has bloomed into an adult obsession. When she was a young girl, Sandra performs bizarre burial rituals with dead animals in the woods. Now as a young woman, she finds work at a funeral parlor where she learns the art of embalming. Here she has ample opportunity indulge herself with the male corpses and ?ross over? To complicate matters, she also becomes romantically involved with Matt, a lonely intense med student (Peter Outerbridge) who is frustrated by his own desperate need to understand her exceptional desires. As Matt competes for Sandra? affections, he realizes that her own passion for death exceeds her love for him. This cinematic debut by director Lynne Stopkewich takes an unusual view point of necrophilia, a subject not many are willing to explore at the same time avoiding all the pitfalls the subject matter creates. Sandra is not portrayed as insane or perverted instead she is drawn as a highly unique individual whose sense of the world is like no other. The film challenges the viewers to re-examine their own beliefs about what is acceptable and natural. (Cassie YOO)
