Synopsis
Sharing a cell together in a French correctional facility is the only thing Francky, Grandjean and Kader have in common. They come from different social backgrounds, cultures and moralities. Francky is a hulking but emotionally distant inmate who is seething with anger and frustration. Grandjean is a young student, not accustomed to his new situation. Finally Kader, a North African - oblivious to his repeated visits to jail - is serving a 2 year sentence for petty theft. Life in a prison cell means different things to these men but boredom, violence and cruelty are unavoidable for them all. Grandjean slowly assimilates into prison life while Francky is increasingly angered by his wife and child? abandonment and Kader is forced to join Francky when he? caught in a prison drug bust. In Zonzon, Laurent Bouhnik blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction by combining stylish visual imagery - slow motion footage, bold color schemes - with the stark images of the prison, the characters and action.
