Synopsis
Billy Brown is released after 5 years in jail and is about to pay a visit to his parents for dinner. The problem is, he told them that he had an important government job in Washington and a wife named Wendy. In a desperate attempt to produce the fictional spouse, Billy kidnaps a dancer named Layla from a tap-dance class and demands that she pose as his wife. Layla, who has taken a shine to this grubby loser, agrees to assist him and plays her role to perfection at the dinner. Although everything is going smoothly Billy is distraught to discover that his indifferent parents haven? really changed. His mother is still a fanatical fan of the Buffalo football team who? rather watch football than talk to the unwanted son, while his father is a failed singer full of simmering rage. Billy decides that the only way to solve his problems is to murder the former Buffalo Bills football player who missed the field goal in the Super Bal. The incident cost Billy $10,000 in gambling losses which he had to pay off by putting himself behind bars. When Billy? friend informs him of the player? whereabouts, he plans the act of revenge. Layla decides to stay with Billy, and he comes back to her when his plan doesn? work out. This film, with all of its black humor, has all the right ingredients for a romantic comedy. Although it begins as such, by the end one realizes that the film is reminiscent of a typical John Cassevetes movie. (LEE Jong-Eun)
