Synopsis

Byeong-Tae goes to Seoul to meet Chunhee-a girl who promised to marry him when they were children. When he finds Chunhee and asks her to marry him, he is ridiculed. Although struggling to make his ends meet, he never loses his smile. When an old man at the boarding house becomes ill, Byeong Tae tries to help him with the money that he saved. However, the old man turns out to be the owner of a big company, and he had faked to find out if there still was an honest person left in this world. Byeong Tae ends up working at the old man's company, and tries to persuade Chunhee into marriage. However, after a misunderstanding, the two grow apart.

He made his directorial debut with The Lost Veil (69). Pee-Mak (81) won the I.S.D.A. Prize at the Venice International Film Festival, and Moulleya-Moulleya (83) was awarded 'Un Certain Regard' at the Cannes International Film Festival. He was invited to the De La Rochelle Film Festival for recognition as an individual director in 1993, and to the New York Modern Art Gallery for 'The Films of Director Lee Doo Yong' presentation in 1994.
