Synopsis
"They say that a butterfly hovering above the Atlantic could cause a hurricane in the Pacific. One foolish, comical, mindless action can overturn the world order," explains a man in the film . Such workings of the world drive the plot of the film. That even the most trivial thing could trigger a chain reaction that leads to a grave consequence. The film comes across as a cinematic demonstration of the chaos theory in epistemology. Naturally, the film takes the approach of intersecting unlike stories with similarly unlike characters. IrŽne, a young woman made weary by loneliness, and Luc, a compulsive liar, and an indecisive middle-aged man who must choose between his wife and mistress. In addition to these three characters, the film bombards us with an array of other characters that makes it almost impossible for us to keep track. By skillfully interweaving and linking insignificant events, the film creates an interesting puzzle, with the message that life is nothing but a series of such trivial events. One may recall other stylistically similar films, such as Robert Altman's or Paul Thomas Anderson? . However, in comparison to such films, is faster-paced, with more stories packed in much shorter running time, and looks at fate with a delightful eye. (HONG Sung-nam)
