House on Terror Tract

Clint Hutchis / Lance W. Dreesen

USA2000 97min 35mm color

Synopsis

'A house in an area of horror' carries frightening significance. The dissonance of 'house' mbolizing safety and security and 'terror' meaning fear tells us something about the film. In the first scene borrowed from David Lynch's the goal of is clear. Using familiar genres and stories it stirs up the audience. Enjoy the creams hidden inside the neat looking houses. A young couple finds their resting place with the guide of a real-estate dealer. However, the house of their dreams has a dark secret. A sadistic husband murdered by his wife crawls out of the pond. The young daughter's monkey kills a man. And the psychiatrist is slain by a serial killer. The couple gives up buying the house, but they have a final test. Would they be safe? The bottom line is that an idealistic American middle class's house is but a dream. An omnibus of three stories. is not an uncomfortable new experiment but rather a variation of the familiar elements of horror movies. If you smiled a bitter smile at the last scene revealing secretive relations of this area, the film has succeeded. (KWON Yong-min)
