Mani Rathnam was born in Tamil Nadu, India in 1956. With an MBA from the Jamnalai Bajaj Institute of Management, Mani Rathnam had no experience in film school or in the film industry until he made his debut directorial film in Kannada. Since then he has directed films mostly in Tamil, from his own screenplays. is his sixteenth directorial feature.
