Synopsis

On the threshold of the 21st century, the vampire Kei, who neither grows older nor dies, loses his companion. The companion tells Kei to find a new friend before he disappears. The year is now 2014. The Japanese economy has collapsed and there is an abundance of people going abroad. In the artificial city of ‘Malepa’, various races start gathering together. Order is lost to greed and violence and the streets are filled with vagrants. Among them is Sho, an orphan boy. By chance, Sho sees Kei suffering from the sunlight and saves him. When Sho finds out about Kei’s frightening identity, he just shrugs it off. Not afraid of him, Sho hangs with Kei. Time passes and Sho grows up to be a young man but Kei looks just as he did when they met. Sho and his friends share joys and sorrows with Kei, engaging in various adventures. In an imaginary futuristic city, the friendship and love with a vampire is portrayed in a unique manner. This film is a science fiction vampire movie starring Japan’s distinct musical duo, Gackt and Hyde. Hyde, the popular vocalist, and Gackt, so intriguing a character that he warrants a ‘Gackt world’, show plenty of charm here. (The ageless, eternal vampire and his friend, is so cool) With a quick pace, comic-book story, the duo’s music, and casting of a Hong Kong star, the film created quite a buzz. It was even made into a comic book. It is a one-source multi-use film, an ambitious pan-Asian project. Just watching Gackt, a Japanese David Bowie, and Hyde is enjoyable enough an experience. Wouldn’t it be the wish of these musicians to be young forever and keep their good looks?(Kim Jung-young)
