Synopsis
Today, at some place we don’t know, what could have happened? We think about it while watching ‘a day on the planet’ on the news. How could that whale have washed up on that beach? How did that man get stuck between two buildings? We have no idea how these things occurred. These are just day-to-day happenings. While interviewing the man stuck between the buildings, the reporter leaves without a moment’s hesitation after learning about the beached whale. The people partying at Masamichi’s see the man on TV and worry, but don’t care to look further into the story. Similar incidents are on the news everyday, but they are not of any significance and they don’t change the world. A Day on the Planet tells a story of a group of young people’s single night. Just like the news segment in the film, many incidents occur during their one night. Kate falls for Kawachi and goes after him. Nishiyama, unhappy with his hair cut from Maki, takes out his anger on Kawachi. Meanwhile, Masamichi, who went out for some snacks, gets hit by a car and gets a call from his ex-girlfriend. These incidents may seem trivial to others, but to the characters, these incidents hold meaning. They often fight with each other, but quickly makeup. That’s because they love each other and want to know each other. Their incidents may not make the news, but they reach out to the audience in their everyday familiarity. Director Isao Yukisada(Go), peacefully shows how our world revolves around the everyday. (KIM Bong-suk)
