Synopsis
A small flashlight that's supposed to protect women, a sharp, but not dangerous, knife, two cups that never break, and a key chain that lights up when you whistle. These are the useless items Max and Beck sell on the streets of Kazakhstan. Just like their wares, their house is almost as useless. Max, who is able to sell the items to people by talking to them, seems to have a little bit hope. But Beck can't even talk to people, let alone sell a single item - even if his life depended on it. It's a sad existence, but the two friends have their dreams to keep them going. Max wants to save enough money to get out of Kazakhstan and go to Germany, while Beck just wants to find true love. But these dreams seem like a woman in red appearing in the dim street light at night. Max's attempt to escape to Germany fails and Beck's woman in red leaves with her other half. Perhaps the only fantasy that the pair can truly possess is the flower pattern drawn on Beck's underwear. These two live out their dreary lives, without a real change of improving them with only impossible dreams to sustain them. Isn't this the antisocial life that many lead? Perhaps the best scene in this frustating film is when Beck blows on the key chain and a little smile lights up his face when the key chain lights up. (LEE Byung-hee)
