Synopsis
Living in a tranquil village and commuting to work in Paris, is the successful and striking Gus who gets about on his fabulous motocycle. Crushing his style is a neighbour he just hates. That neighbour would be Ben, white singleton wearing farmer with shaggy unkempt hair. Maybe it is because their completely different lifestyles, but they dislike the fact that the other exists. Hating each other has become a lifetime goal as they clash over everything and anything. One day, unable to bear the cacophony from Ben's tracter, Gus get's on his motocycle and heads at full speed to Ben. Black and white cinemascope scene of Ben's final heroic physical deeds is his last. As the two of them come to blows, the tracter accidentally falls on them and tragically and permanently paralysing them from the waist down. Lying next to each other in a hospital ward wishing to do see each other again but end up on the same train platform waiting for a train to Finland. They are going to meet the tractor manufacturer Aaltra. From this point, this road movie of two handicapped men in wheelchairs breaks free any fixed preconceptions. Using the fact that they handicapped to their adventage they deceive sympathetic kindhearted people, shamelessly and disgracefully freeload and even start stealing. It is hard to feel compassion for these two misfits. Expectations of a compassionate story about tear jerking new age handicapped men are forced away with a stylish twisted abominable black humour kick of reality. With restrained dialogue and shot from a third party perspective increasing the comedy element. Also, the skillfully and polished b/w images allured to a peculiar catharsis.
