Wilby Wonderful

Daniel MACLVOR

Canada2004 99min 35mm Color

Synopsis

Many celebrity actors in Canada appear in Wilby Wonderful. It occurs in an island as an exhibition of small events. The events seem disparate but are tied together artfully. A sign-maker, who is one of life's losers, always fails at attempting suicide. A real estate agent tries to sell a house. The realtor's husband has a love affair. Her daughter is against her immoral behavior. The different stories draw a circle that focus on the core of daily life. The individual stories of the people don't end in the same way. The connection and insertion of stories and the presentation of black humor and satire by revealing the truth in the end is a device of low-budget films. The part that shows the small but unique lives of people for 24 hours is a reminder of the mean in a community. The film shows that changing closed awareness is difficult in an enclosed place. The range of the material extends globally, where we live. It has the narrative structure of a short cut and Magnoliashowing the combination of TV drama and film. The ultimate judgment on the product is up to audience.
