Ginger Snaps ¥²:The Biginning

Grant HARVEY

Canada2004 94min 35mm Color Asian Premiere

Synopsis

Part of the Ginger Snaps series, which was made due to the success of Ginger Snaps¥°. The film is the third part of the story set in 19th century Canada. The film starts with a scene showing Ginger and Bridget, which are played by different actors from the earlier films, losing their way in the innermost depths of Canada. Bridget, who is on the way, gets caught in a trap and gets hurt. She meets a curious Indian who helps her get out of the trap, and they to Port Bayly, a settlement area. She thinks that the place is safe, but it turns out to be a prison surrounded by vicious werewolves. The mysterious Indian, who was her source of hope, is also infected by the werewolves. This is based on the sociological story of the animosity between Native Americans and Europeans, the prejudice of Christians against women, and the violence to other races in the 19th century. The film uses the classical material of horror movies where people are killed by werewolves one by one. The conversation between Bridget and Ginger doesn't seem to match with the 19th century. You will also feel that their relationship is too simple. If you watch the movie, you will wonder why the sisters are different from those in earlier films and you can also feel the attraction of the film.
