Synopsis

A couple, Daniel and Susan, heads for a Caribbean island for scuba diving on a holiday. Because of their love for skin scuba, they didn’t realize that they were left behind. Embarrassed, they try to appeal for help, finding that only a small air pack remains with them. The dark comes down and the sea becomes colder. To make them more miserable, jellyfish attacks them. They impatiently wait for rescue in the middle of the sea. It gives them arctic fear. After that night, they simply disappear in the sea. The film shows a procedure in which the couple is slowly being eaten by sharks. It is in relation to man’s place in the food pyramid. It is based on a true event of a diver's disappearance. The film was written and directed by Chris Kantis and produced and shot by Laura Lau. They didn't only depend on Computer Graphics but also used 50 sharks to deliver real fear. The beautiful Caribbean turns into an object of desperate fear, like darkness. The film was made with a low budget of $130,000 but earned $300,000,000 just in the US. OPEN WATER reminds us of the fragility and vulnerability of modern man in relation to the vast and indiscriminant power of nature.
