Synopsis
Mon Oncle is the first film that Tati's criticism of mindless obsession with modernity and American-style consumerism is distinctively asserted. A couple believes they are happy in the all automatically operated, multi-functional house. They are Mr. Hulot's sister and brother-in-law. To walk their young son between his house and school, the well-meaning, but dim-witted Mr. Hulot comes back and forth between his small, old-fashioned home and the-in-law\'s ultra-progressive household full of noisy gadgets and futuristic dcor. Hulot's brother-in-law tries to give Hulot a job at his factory, but Hulot, who barely tells the roles of workers from the functions of machines, gets into hilarious accidents. The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Grand Prize from Canne Film Festival.
