Jour De Fête

Jacques Tati

France1949 70min 35mm B&W

Synopsis

On a festival day in a rural village in France, Jacques Tati-playing postman Francois watches a short movie on the highly developed mailing system at a makeshift movie theater. He takes it serous, and makes every effort on his own to deliver mail the way Americans do, but it never materializes: He doesn't have the equipment, but only with bicycles. This limits his coverage to a great degree, and he cannot catch up with the modern delivery techniques of the US-post. No matter how much he tries, he only ends up in bigger trouble. It was originally shoot in black and white, but restored in color in 1995.
