Fantastic Shin Sang Ok

Tender Heart

Shin Sang Ok

Korea1967 100min 35mm Color

Synopsis

Adapted from Jong-hwa Park's novel, Tender Heart shows how the Shin Film approached spectacles in its period drams during its zenith. After Prince Noguk dies, King Gongmin falls for a woman, Banya, who looks just like the dead princess. You will get to see the glimpse of the power of the Korean movie industry in the 1960s, when the industry enjoyed great success, in ravish set art, glamorous costume, large-scale battle scenes and mass mobilization. Not only the appeal of the spectacles, it also stands out in the way it portrays a love story of the king who harbors kind of necrophilia in a provocative manner for that time. What makes the film an outstanding classic till this day is the director's strong will and understanding that pushed to the completion of this large-scale film, under the belief that the biggest fun to movie goers is story and spectacle.
