Julia KWAN

Canada2005 92min 35mm Color

Synopsis

Both 9-year-old mature Eve and 11-year-old Karina are descendents of Asian immigrants living in Vancouver. All of a sudden, the sisters find themselves in trouble: a mythical spell that there will be a series of bad fortunes happening to their family, after their mother cut down an apple tree in the backyard. Eve attempts to resolve this issue in her imaginative world, while Karina tries to use Catholic for the same goal. Canadian director with Asian heritage Julia Kwan made her debut film based on her own experience. The scene with Buddha and Jesus dancing together may be one of the most beautiful scenes in the film history.
