Flower and Snake

Takashi Ishii

Japan2004 115min 35mm Color

Synopsis

Famous tango dancer Sizko agrees to be a slave of sexual play in the hopes of paying back her husband\"s gambling debt. On a dim-lit stage, Sizko is abused to be an object of an affluent voyeuristic old gentleman. Flower and Snake is adapted from a sadomasochism-themed novel by Japanese popular writer, Dan Oniroku. Instead of producing philosophical messages that romance-pornographic movies often generate, the film aesthetically displays rape, SM and snuff show, and has the object and the subject of voyeuristic gaze to despair and destruction. In doing so, it successfully opens an exit of suppressed desire. "
