Synopsis
It is no exaggeration to say that Japanese film in the 1960s was in a huge battle between tradition and rebellion. In fierce contrasts of OZU versus KUROSAWA and Nagisa OSHIMA versus Shohei IMAMURA, Japanese film embraced the world trend of the time to attain genre diversity. Pioneering popular movies with characteristic genre movies in the frontline, NIKKATSU was literally on its "exciting strides," quote by Yomota INUHIKO. Rider with a Guitar is the core of multinational production by NIKKATSU as well as one of the hit-maker Buichi SAITO's representative films. After making his debut with NIKKATSU, SAITO directed "Seasonal Bird" series, namely a Japanese western, starring Akira KOBAYASHI. In this 5th episode of the series, the main character carries a guitar and rides on a horse in company with a boy looking for his mother. However, the mother refuses to see the boy and the hero duels villains who attempt to drive people out for the sake of regional development. (KWON Yong Min)
