Synopsis

Hosting the World's Trade Fair (EXPO), Tokyo beams with a mixture of cutting-edge technologies and cultural heritage from participant countries. Pro-Pyeongyang federation of Korean residents in Japan receives an order to abduct South Koreans attending EXPO to the North. Dong Geun, an undercover Korean intelligence, is assigned to safeguard the jeopardized South Korean representatives confronted with the deadly FOA's threatening operation. South Korea in 1970 demonstrates the essence of the Korean modern history where premodern values vies with modern desires. While the country was enormously suppressed with traditional paternalistic system and anti-communism ideology, its people turned their focus to outside accompanied by westernized modernization. Director CHOE In Hyeon whose experience lies in Korea/Hong Kong co-productions, reflects the time by employing international espionage narrative in Operation Tokyo Expo '70. You will have the pleasure of meeting one of the personas branded by PARK No Sik and the heroine of Heavenly Homecoming to Stars, AN In Suk. (Jin PARK)
