Flash Point

Wai Sun YIP

Hong Kong2007 88min 35mm Color

Synopsis

Flash Point, the holy grail of the 21st-century Hong Kong action filmmaking, is the fruit of collaboration between Director Wai Sun YIP and veteran action star Donnie YEN. Set in 1997, Tony Brothers commit brutal crimes, expanding their influence over Hong Kong mob scenes. Detective MA, who would do anything, including violence, to help solve his cases, assigns WILSON for undercover work to put them away. WILSON does obtain decisive evidence against them, only the brothers find that out and threaten to kill him and his girlfriend. The trial approaches. The brothers start to eliminate witnesses and police officers involved. And MA pays a visit to their hideout for final showdown. YEN's no-stunt, breathtaking action scenes, the contemporary rendition of action spectacles, and the last fight between YEN (MA) and Collin CHOW (Tony), which is the culmination of the modern mixed martial arts (MMA), all contribute to making this film a genuine masterpiece.
