Synopsis
In a small English village of Kromer, there live two werewolves, Gabriel and Seth around the fringe. Of course, people in town are far from friendly. Meanwhile two old ladies conspire to poison off their mistress, Mrs. Drax and succeed. Her family gathers in for her funeral, a turning point for Gabriel and Seth. Depressed by Gabriel's unfaithfulness, Seth gets seduced by Mrs. Drax's grand daughter. What's more, distrust and animosity against the two werewolves intensify along with Father David's anti-wolf campaign. Wolves of Kromer adds werewolves to the legacy of monster characters, with which popular movies have reproduced the issue of homosexuality. Lurking around, intimidating herds of sheep, arousing fear from townspeople, the wolves here are perfect allegory of gays, the social outsiders. This movie is an atypically distorted bedtime story with a mix of monster movie tradition and queer cinema sensibility. Take notice of exquisite charm of the werewolves played by James LAYTON and Lee WILLIAMS. The poised narration voice belongs to Boy GEORGE. (Jin PARK)
