Synopsis
Otto rises from a grave on the suburb of Berlin and wanders around until he meets Medea who was working on a political-porno-zombie movie Up With Dead People. Medea casts him for her movie, and Otto moves in to stay with her actor, Adolf. In the meantime, Otto becomes confused as he begins to remember fragments of his past and eventually arranges to meet his ex-boyfriend. The more he recollects his pre-zombie life the more doubt in his identity. A living dead with an identity struggle, where does Otto go from here?
To be remembered as the most heretical presence in the queer-cinema landscape, Bruce LABRUCE's new film Otto; or, Up with Dead People communicates his leftist political philosophy and affection(!) for pornography through the casing of a zombie movie. The symbology of zombie for LABRUCE is the allegory of queer on the fringe as well as frontal revolution against the reality packed with corrupt politics. Within the movie-within-a-movie design, LABRUCE again reveals the provocative underground style unique to him. (Jin PARK)
