Synopsis

On the outskirt of a Kazakhstani village, a boy falls gravely sick after running into a veiled stranger. Yet he is completely cured when an old man with broken wings showed up in his family’s barn. While superstitious locals are frightened by his presence, the village’s bureaucrats try to take advantage of him for their own purpose. The only companions on the old man’s side are the innocent boy and his parents. The old man, supposedly an ‘angel,’ is the mediator visually reflecting the degree of faith in the citizens. Seasoned with humor and criticism, this allegorical comedy carries the director’s effort in penetrating group think. Enjoy the supernatural fairy tale filled with Kazakhstani folk music, desolate sceneries, unrealistic costumes, and cartoon-like characters. (LEE Hwa Jung)
