Gone Shopping

WEE Li Lin

Singapore2007 97min HD Color Korean Premiere

Synopsis

The first feature film by award winning short film-maker Wee Li LIN is a satirical drama about the Singapore people. As a center of trade, Singapore is filled with gigantic buildings and shopping malls. Shoppers busily passing through maze-like shopping malls enjoy shopping and take it for granted. In Singapore where all acts of education, culture and social life occur at a single spot, people are always gone shopping.
In the film, there appear a forty year old women named Clara who loves shopping, an employee of the clothing store, a stranger who she meets by accident, a girl who hangs out in the mall and young guys addicted to arcade games. Together, these characters lead audiences through a journey of their destitute minds in a material world. The director's eyes are satirical but compassionate, drawing the attention of audiences to which Wee Li LIN considers, the heart of Singapore. It is not the flashy shopping malls but the corner of the heart of the ordinary people who experience love and loss but stand up again to live their own life. (KWON Yong Min)
