Synopsis

It is sex that saves the mankind and makes a world peace. Although sounded like a joke, it is not impossible when we watch the story by Daisuke TENGAN. The Most Beautiful Night in the World is the modern version of IMAMURA's the Profound Desire of the Gods. A little village called Kaname boasts the highest birth rate in Japan where population decline is a serious problem. Most village children were born in the same period of time. The secret? 14 years ago, a Tokyo-based newspaper reporter KAZUYA was demoted to this little village where he meets the town's eccentric village people including a bomb terrorists, a child prodigy, a gangster and a bar owner who sees ghosts, who got crashed with the villagers who distrust them. One day, the most beautiful night comes. With a strong script and excellent acting performances, director TENGAN created magical moments between the reality and fantasy. The audience will be smiling when the children born as the result of that day challenge to try a revolution again. (KWON Yong Min)

Daisuke TENGAN

Tengan was born in Tokyo in 1959 to Shohei Imamura, the late acclaimed filmmaker. He made a debut as a commercial feature film director with Asian Beat, I love Nippon in 1991. In 2002 he directed AIKI which was invited to Venice International Film Festival.
