Synopsis
Santanas: Profile of a Killer opens with a scene where a woman confesses to a priest. "I must deliver my children from the terrible hunger,” whispers the woman. But the deliverance she speaks of is to kill her children with her own hands. The priest begs her to wait for just a few more hours until he fetches her some food. The Higher Power, however, seems to have made her own choice already. All characters in the film show weaknesses that exist not because humans are innately evil but because they are susceptible to temptation. A priest suffering from carnal desire; a poor woman tempted with sordid money; a Vietnam veteran tortured by compulsive cleanliness and sexual dysfunction. Santanas follows these individuals who perilously fall prey to their desires to the ending that is bitter and brutal. (KANG Yu Jung)
