When the Full Moon Rises

Mohamad MOHD KHALID

Malaysia2008 110min 35mm BW Korean Premiere

Synopsis

Saleh, a reporter who has just been let go, opens When The Full Moon Rises with a line "I have to make a choice." The anxious look on his face, the lopsided camera angle and movement suggest he is in deep trouble. Sure enough, he ends up in a peculiar town where people have been reportedly missing with each full moon. Driven by a desire to revive his profession, Saleh decides to stay to "pry" despite townspeople's warning. As he tries to uncover the truth, he encounters violent intruders, enchanting ladies and ever more complicated conspiracy. A #999999-and-white, seemingly film noir-inspired piece, When The Full Moon Rises dabbles at supernatural horror elements and cross-over experimentation. But its continuous (and occasionally preposterous) sense of humor never fails to entertain audience, showing what merrymaking is all about! (HONG Sung Nam)
