Program Note
Peaceful life, uneventful days, voyeuristic male curiosity... problems. In Timecrimes, our guy Hector spots a female nudity and a grotesquely shaped entity in the forest while cruising the landscape through his telescope. Chasing after them into the woods, he steps his foot into the forest, at which moment time stops playing by the conventional rule. Now, time becomes entangled. Past, present and future overlap. Hector utterly confused and freighted by his inability to distinguish between his "past," "present" and "future," with conviction. Time incessantly returns to where it was instead of moving forward. Watching its bizarre course alone is terrifying. I, who watches me? I, who attacks me? I, who needs protection from myself? (NAM Da Eun)
