Synopsis

James, with his friends Mark and Chasley, finds a body of a woman supposedly associated with the local missing girl, where a male figure was seen leaving the body unattended. And there is Gary, who has maltreated both James and Mark since they were kids. The cannot put up to Gary's violence anymore so they threaten the killer they found on the trench and ask him to put Gary to death. Always in a step back from the Australian film mainstream, John HEWITT has been a director, writer, and producer in his films demonstrating the most economic way of filmmaking. From his debut with Bloodlust (1992) depicting a cult vampire, his excellence in horror and thriller fares was confirmed by commercial success and favorable critics. Though claimed as a teenage horror movie, Acolytes is no close to hustle-and-bustle of Hollywood counterparts. The quiet outskirts of Queensland are only disturbed by 3 soft-voiced teenagers and the mood of terror is intensified by the overarching chilliness along with the giant forest deepening its darkness.
