The Neighbor Zombie

OH Young-doo / RYU Hoon / YEONG Geon / JANG Yoon-jung

Korea2009 89min

Synopsis

“What if a zombie virus were to spread throughout Seoul?” asks this omnibus film with six tales about the zombie virus. It is refreshing because it tells the story of zombies and their families and friends might be zombies!

Program Note

What if there are zombies in my neighborhood? Now, it may not be that striking because this film uses zombies as food, not zombies that attack humans. However, in 2010, when the movie was made, the film was full of new imagination and discovery of Korean zombie movies. The movie, which was made after ‘Kino Mangosteen’, a movie filmed by the film’s creator group, tells six interesting stories about a neighborhood that has turned into zombies due to a zombie virus. The movie has overcome the incredible production cost and inherent production limitations with genre imagination, directors’ talent, and cinematic ambition. The Neighbor Zombie, which had finally returned home eight years after winning the Jury’s Choice award in BIFAN2009, is still cute, sad and scary. (MO Eun-young)
