Program Note

Fujii is a junior high school teacher. On her 24th birthday, she is kidnapped. The two men who kidnapper call her Sunny. In 2003, there was a girl who murdered her elementary school friend. After her photos were released, a crowd of worshipers appears on the internet calling her “the cutest killer.” However, once she became an adult, she disappeared. Fujii is in trouble. The kidnappers believe she is the “the cutest killer,” even though she denies it. The kidnappers believe what they want to believe. In the space of the Internet, they create objects to believe, worship and build myths around. A crowd of Sunny worship visit her in a secret location. The crowd made a really strange and a grotesque sight themselves. This is a show created by imperfect people to worship what they believe is a perfect object, Sunny. Their acting is ironic in the beginning, it is going to collapse in on itself. They will end up distrustful of themselves and the crowd will break up. Shiraish Kazuya shows calmly the pathetic enthusiasm of modern people who volunteers to bring chaos in order to survive. The director portrays this film in an emotional way through the process of a woman who was suspicious of Sunny, she calls herself Sunny, and stands up as a savior at last. The stories seem as if they are not related, however, the director is able to weave a touching story and ending. (KIM Bong-seok)
