Program Note
Mayor Park Sung-bae literally controls Annam City. No journalist, prosecution, police or business group related to the city are free from the hands of Park. Park Sung-bae’s stepbrother, Do-kyung, is one of his subordinates. The main job of Do-kyung is to support and deal with all the bad things Park does to protect his interests. Prosecutor Kim Cha-in, who decided to sacrifice Park Sung-bae as a victim to his success, uses Do-kyung’s weakness and tries to dig into Park’s corruption. Sun-mo, a junior detective who was greatly cared by Do-kyung like his brother, chose to stand on the side of mayor Park rather than Dokyung, and their fight turns the city of Annam into a hell. Instead of a fierce brain fight, the conspiracy of threat and terrorism is rampant, and the scenes of blood and bone are scattered even if they are not well-designed actions. It would be fair to say that the disloyal war without sympathy of ‘the bad’ is the Korean version of the novel¡¸Red Harvest¡¹written by Dashiell Hammett. (KIM Yong-eon)
