Fish Story

Synopsis

Fish Story portrays an apocalyptic 2012, when Earth is faced with a collision with a gigantic comet. Amid the impending catastrophe, a group of young men are listening to music at a Tokyo record store. A middle-aged man passing by sees them and becomes suspicious of their “leisurely” state. Soon, he begins a conversation with them, trying to figure out how a music album can save their planet. Based on the preposterous assumption, Fish Story adopts an omnibus format and evolves into a witty, outrageous comic sci-fi feature film. Several short stories make up the whole story, each of which taking place in different eras. At the center of them are a Japanese indie band and their album “Fish Story,” which failed to gain popularity during the early 1970s. Director NAKAMURA Yoshihiro has been making mid-length and feature films since 2004, and has earned good reviews with his 2006 production Route 225. He has also written a screenplay for NAKADA Hideo’s Dark Water (2002). NAKAMURA’s The Foreign Duck, the Native Duck and God in a Coin Locker (2007), too, was released in Korea. (JEONG Ji Yeon)
