Synopsis

Zombies are probably one of the most exploited themes in the genre of horror film. A sociological examination of the theme, however, can only be interesting, no matter how one approaches it. Choking Hazard is a fine black comedy, offering rare fresh metaphors and sarcasm. But the most intriguing element of it would be the philosopher who turns into a walking-dead. He and others are staying at a motel located deep in the woods, taking classes, contemplating the meaning of life, when the undead attack them. Amid the catastrophe, the philosopher tries to fulfill his mission of teaching. Also, various assumptions and lines the film offers two chapters, ‘Instinct’ and ‘Reason’ are rather profound; the more you think about them, the greater wisdom you get. The way people meet their demise is as diverse as who they are. At the moment of being bitten by one of the zombies, the philosopher screams “I can’t possibly die like this!” People fulfill their needs in their own way as death approaches them. And the philosopher keeps spinning his beautiful lines throughout, enlightening us razor-sharp on how we can find the meaning of life. Just to find that out, if nothing else, you’ve got to see this movie. (PARK Sang Joon)
