Synopsis
Tom HALLAND’s series-opening film where a murdering plastic doll is the main character/villain clearly shows why the series is loved by horror film buffs. This particular edition is an outstanding work, featuring an interesting plot, fine special effects, and average-than-normal gores and killings. At the beginning of the movie, Charles Lee RAY, a serial killer, is being tracked down by the detectives. The ruthless killer is shot to death during escape. He “transplants” his soul into the doll Chucky nearby before he dies, and is resurrected from beyond to end more lives. The most eye-catching element is the human-like Chucky, which was a technical challenge back then due to the lack of CG technology. The cute yet hideous doll was made alive thanks to the uncanny performance of the actor (midget) Ed GALE. The walking, running, slicing up, and many more actions are live and real because of his actual performance. Don’t let the look fool you, though. Chucky may be small but is a true evil incarnate. This first portion of the entire series introduces the birth of Chucky, a character with tons of charisma. After seeing this one, you can’t get that name out of your head! (KIM Jong Chul)
