Synopsis

Based on “The Space Vampires,” Collin WILSON’s sci-fi fiction, Lifeforce is directed by Tobe HOOPER, the mastermind of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre. This interesting story begins with a British spacecraft The Churchill discovering a tiny spaceship hidden behind the tail of Halley’s Comet. In the spaceship, the scientists found a naked woman and two men sleeping inside capsules, whom they decide to bring to Earth. After a while when the girl wakes up, horrific disasters begin to strike the city. Lifeforce is a multi-genre production, starting as a typical science fiction fare and ending as a vampire and disaster movie. Each of the genres, however, is merely touched on, and the interaction between them is not too clever. Though the idea and approach are fresh and unique, the contents are only too familiar. Having said that, the film still offers incredible visuals, particularly those under special effects. In one scene, the vampire sucks blood not through the punctured wounds but through kissing, leaving the victims emaciated and lifeless. Mathilda MAY tempts viewers with her lustrous nude. She wanders around stark-naked, which alone gives one good enough reason to see this film. (KIM Jong Chul)
