The thirteenth movie installment of the widely popular manga and anime series Detective Conan was the top grossing domestic film in Japan for the first half of 2009. Unlike the self-contained cases featured predominantly in previous movies, this film presents an in-depth mystery that takes the story back to the beginning and unfolds a central episode in the Detective Conan saga. The mysterious ‘Black Organization’ introduced in the fifth movie returns to clash with the police, while Conan investigates the case one step ahead of the law. But the tension heightens when a member of the Black Organization who has infiltrated the police begins to suspect Conan’s identity. The movie boasts bigger action and a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase. It also brings together numerous characters who appeared only in the TV animation; fans of the TV series and original manga will find much to delight them.
