Synopsis
Although this film is the movie version of Psalms of Planets Eureka SeveN, which aired to critical acclaim in 2005 as an anime series, it’s not a simple re-edit of the TV version. It’s a brand new work that restructures the original footage under the theme of ‘rebirth,’ and depicts the characters’ adventures in a new world. KYODA Tomoki spent 10 years as an animation director, half of which he devoted to this ambitious work; as both writer and director, he put his distinctive stamp on it. By instilling deep significance in each line of dialogue, he took the entertainment animation provides through visual expression and transformed it using a philosophical, lyrical ambience. The result may elicit a divided reaction among fans of the TV animation, a situation recalling the fan backlash OSHII Mamoru and TOMINO Yoshiyuki incurred when their works strongly reflected their idiosyncrasies as animation auteurs. In this movie version, KYODA has likewise created a markedly different parallel universe to his original Eureka SeveN.(TOGAWA Yasuhiro)
