Synopsis

American Swing is a documentary that chronicles the rise and fall of 1970s New York City nightclub Plato"s Retreat. This nightclub is where American swing was born and flourished. Plato"s Retreat was nicknamed Disneyland for adults because people could enter with a small price of admission to have sex with anyone, dance and even swim. Although it left its mark on New York"s underground culture, the nightclub was unknown to the general public until now because it was so unconventional. It is shown for the first time through American Swing. Former journalist Jon HART and documentary director Matthew KAUFMAN have come together to listen to the stories of the former patrons of Plato"s Retreat about the American swing culture. This is a valuable film that helps us take a peek at the life back in those days. (HUH Nam Woong)
