Logline

A lonely plant lover discovers that the flowering tree she has been nurturing like a child is actually an alien plant that consumes humans. And now it intends to conquer Earth. She struggles to eradicate the alien plant that has taken over her island village.

Synopsis

In a rural greenhouse on Jeju Island, a meteorite falls, and an alien plant begins to grow in its place. The alien plant secretly sucks blood from people while they are asleep, enticing them to have captivating dreams. The owner of the vinyl house, ‘Su-ni (45/Female)’, a rare plants enthusiast, starts to nurture the alien plant with care.

One day, Su-ni falls in love with ‘Mr. Kim (40/Male)’ at a meeting against the development of forest, as she is drawn to his passionate love for nature. Both burdened with past wounds, Su-ni and Mr. Kim are strongly attracted to each other, and they fall in love. However, Mr. Kim steals Su-ni’s alien plant to halt the forest development, and in the process, the alien plant withers and dies.

To add insult to injury, Su-ni discovers that she is pregnant, facing yet another tragedy. Her deformed child dies soon after birth, and Mr. Kim, unable to believe Su-ni’s words, cuts off contact with her. Desperate, Su-ni decides to spend time recovering at a horse farm of her friend, Un-ok’s (50/Female).

Meanwhile, a new alien plant begins to grow in the deep forest where the child’s body was buried. To clear her name, Su-ni tries to show Mr. Kim the child’s grave, only to accidentally feed him to the alien plant. However, after the blood-sucking, Mr. Kim awakens and professes his love for Su-ni, proposing that they form a family in the greenhouse with the alien plant, claiming it as their child. Su-ni accepts his proposal, convinced that the alien plant, which does not suck her blood, is indeed their child. From then on, Mr. Kim offers visitors to the greenhouse to the alien plant and even plans to use Su-ni’s plant-breeding skills to produce alien plant seedlings, endangering the entire village.

At the same time, Un-ok discovers the horrifying truth about the alien plant. Realizing that Mr. Kim is being controlled by the alien plant, she tries to inform Su-ni but is fatally wounded by Mr. Kim. Su-ni escapes the vinyl house to save Un-ok, only to face the apocalypse caused by the alien plant. The forests of Jeju are covered with alien plants, and people are found shriveled and addicted, being sucked dry by the alien plants.

Engulfed in guilt and despair, Su-ni realizes that she is the only person who can eradicate the alien plants on the island. She roams the meadows of Jeju on horseback, searching for clues to the antidote that Un-ok had mentioned.

Creator's Statement

When you see a plant with an unusual appearance, you might wonder.

“Do they look so fascinating?”

Endangered started with the idea that there is a plant that seduces humans to reproduce. What if it is an alien species trying to conquer the Earth? If the alien species received an SOS from Earth’s plants, it might conclude that it needs to exterminate humans to save them. Indeed, the planet is facing mass extinction due to human overdevelopment and ecosystem destruction. This is the reality of our situation, and we want to emphasize it by showing a plant at the bottom of the food chain fighting back against humans.
