Logline
Falsely accused of murder, psychiatrist Joonkyu uses Obscura, the machine that visualizes subconscious dimensions, to clear himself of a false charge as well as to treat the illness of the mind.
Synopsis
Obscura is a story about a machine that visualizes a person’s subconscious dimensions using image construction technology. Joonkyu and his team, who invented the eponymous machine, use it to help their clients who have experienced some sort of failures in their mental treatment sessions, and to remove their mental elements that are hurting the patients in quite a violent way.
One day, Joonkyu’s team is asked to access the world of mind, not to cure illness, but to find “a hidden memory about jewelry worth a huge sum of money.” And there, Joonkyu encounters a very familiar subconscious state to the one that belonged to his ex-lover who died because of him.
Creator's Statement
A spectacular adventure story exploring the world of the subconscious.
Listening to dialogues between a psychiatrist and a patient, it doesn’t sound like they are exchanging information and emotions. Rather, I am often reminded of an adventurer exploring the unknown territories of Amazon, searching for something hidden. This got me wondering: What if there is a sci-fi version of Indiana Jones who searches for precious treasures in the unknown world of mind using this machine called Obscura? It was the start of this project.
By visualizing the invisible minds of modern people who suffer from all kinds of pains and feelings of being lost through the protagonist’s adventures into different worlds, I hope the film can offer not only entertainment but also sympathy and meaning.
