Program Note
“Everyone in the company liked her, whether it was the bachelor or the married man,” Deok-hoon (Kim Joo-hyuk) says about Joo In-ah, and it likely holds true. Watching the film, it is nearly impossible to look away from In-ah(Son Yejin). Deok-hoon is completely taken with her. After many twists and turns, Deok-hoon marries In-ah. Just when he thinks his worries are over, In-ah shatters their marital bliss with a bombshell. She admits that she has found someone she loves as much as her husband and wants to marry him too. Deok-hoon is furious, but In-ah doesn’t see a problem. “I’m not asking for the stars or the moon. I just want another husband,” she declares.
Son Yejin, instead of letting In-ah be misunderstood as greedy or selfish, uses a myriad of facial expressions to bring depth to her character. She confronts prejudice and seeks the right words to convince others, all while dealing with Deok-hoon’s growing jealousy and self-doubt. In this expansive space crafted by Son Yejin, the film questions and explores alternative forms and even possibilities of relationships. (CHA Hanbi)
