Program Note
Three slackers in a futuristic society infiltrate a former employer that collects now non-flesh-eating zombies for observation, collecting and selling them as performance artists for profit. When the boss finds out and kidnaps one of their grandmothers for payback, they must save her and also thwart his evil plan to turn zombies into weapons.
The latest from the Canadian team RKSS that brought you the 80s nostalgic masterpieces Turbo Kid (2015) and Summer of ’84 (2018)(played at BIFAN in 2015 and 2018 respectively,) is an unadulterated thrill ride that aptly combines graphic violence with comedy, as well as being a biting social commentary on elderly abuses with basically zombies replacing the elderlies. We Are Zombies is an indie gem and a pure crowd pleaser that is undoubtedly a cult status in the making. (Jongsuk Thomas NAM)
