Program Note
Full of energy and wit, this extremely informative and enjoyable documentary delves into the work of Bruce Lee, his legacy and most notably, his clones. Directed by David Gregory, who has made over 100 documentaries including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – The Shocking Truth, Enter the Clones of Bruce is a very well-structured film. Beginning with the life of Bruce Lee as an introduction, it the explores his so-called clones, wider Bruceploitation cinema and unauthorized biopics, sequels and everything in between. From shooting without permits to blatant copyright infringements, Enter the Clones of Bruce reveals the chaotic nature of Hong Kong filmmaking in the 1970s and 1980s.
With a wealth of archive footage and interviews with the clones themselves, along with directors, producers and experts, it’s a must-see for anyone with an interest in Hong Kong cinema. (Jason BECHERVAISE)
